Clear Spaces make for a clear mind!

Ever felt like your surroundings are just getting on your nerves, and no matter how much cleaning you do, there's just that something that feels off? I have! It's unbelievably frustrating and I was living in a state of clutter limbo longer than I should have. That is until one day I finally snapped.

After a couple of months of not feeling quite settled in my home, I had one of those rabid moments of decluttering my kitchen, and even I was astounded at how much crap I had collected. I'd taken the motto "If it fits, it sits" way too far.

But honestly, decluttering the hell out of my kitchen was one of the best feelings I'd felt in a really long time, just the feeling of relieve and some weight of my mind, I felt like I could breathe mentally and think clearer! So many people have felt the same benefits as I have and there are countless books and YouTube video's on the benefits and how to declutter your spaces. We all can't be wrong on how a clearer space makes for a clearer mind right?

So if you're feeling like something is not quite right, or something is irking you that you just cant put your finger on, I suggest that you declutter either a singular space or a room. Hell if you got the time maybe the house! Not only do you get a cleaner and more organised home with everything in its rightful place, but I promise you, you will feel similar effects within your mind.

How to get started!

One option, if your a spontaneous one, is to just get stuck in and take everything out and sort them. However the overwhelming feeling of "what have I done?!" can come over you quickly to the point where you revert to putting everything back to where it was as if you didn't try to start (and yes, this has been me on a couple of occasions, sorting the toys to be exact).

Another option is to plan out how your going to go about the decluttering process. Write down all the areas in your home that need to be decluttered, and then estimate how long it will take to declutter that space!

For example, I knew the kitchen would take a really long time to declutter, with everything I have going on I don't have that much time to declutter the room which holds the most storage spaces in the house and the crap that comes with them! So what I did was I wrote out all the cupboards I have in the kitchen and I took some time out of the day to tackle one of those spaces. So like I said it started with the cupboard under the kitchen sink one night the next night I went through my pots and pans cupboard, the next was my cups, then crockery, cutlery drawer and so on and so forth until after about 10 days, I had decluttered my whole kitchen! And It felt pretty good! The best part is that I've managed to keep the clutter down ever since!

Although 10 days might seem a long time to declutter a kitchen, in reality, each space only took about 15-20 minutes to do so it's not much out of the day really.

So, this is what the infamous cupboard looked like... not too bad?

But this is what I somehow fit into the small space...

Oh and this...

Like how does that much stuff fit into a tiny cupboard?! Seriously?! But! I did manage to sift through it all and got rid of what I didn't need and consolidated the essentials back into the cupboard....

I'm currently on a decluttering mission to get my house sorted and rid of anything Jodie and I no longer want or need! I'm not quite a minimalist but I do hate clutter and things looking untidy! But with each room I'm clearing

If you ever feel like you could do with some decluttering but lack the motivation to do so, I love to watch YouTube video's as for some weird reason, seeing other people clean and the results they gain, makes me want to achieve the same. A couple of channels I follow for some motivation are VasseurBeauty and ClutterBug.

If you fancy a challenge, ClutterBug made a cleaning challenge back in October where you declutter one space or room a day, similar to what I did but you follow along with ClutterBug on what she's decluttering on that particular day. What I love about her is that she's so funny and she's open to life's troubles and she doesn't hide anything and pretends her house is immaculate 24/7, cause I mean... who's is?! She also shares a story with you at the end of each video. It's optional to watch, but I find them hilarious and she's not shy! She tells you some pretty embarrassing stories of herself.

Vasseur Beauty, as you can probably tell, talks about beauty related things and she gives amazing tips and hacks on all things beauty related, but she's grown on from beauty and has started involving cleaning routines, home DIY hacks to uploading Vlogs with her husband and son (who is so adorable!). She's a bit of an all rounder!

I hope this has been helpful for you to get your decluttering on and to start that process of feeling lighter on the mind. At the end of the day, what surrounds us reflects what's going on in our minds and It's up to us to keep both spaces clutter free for a positive mindset so we can keep a clear focus on what we want to do!
