Do you ever get an epiphany like idea and you start getting so excited because it feels so real and achievable? In that single moment in time when it enters your train of thought, everything seems so simple and you could pull what ever it is off, like pulling air out of a hat. How hard can it be?
Or say you're chatting to friends about the changes you want to make in your life and in that moment you all get excited about making plans and being each others accountability buddies to make sure you have help to reach the goals.
That feeling of the positive energy you've created in that moment is the drive and motivation that kick starts you working on whatever it is that you wanted to do. Whether it be to loose weight or to start a new fitness regime, to start a business or to start saving for that girls holiday.
But after a few days, that motivation wears off, that energy isn't there. All the food and supplements for your fitness journey take a back seat in the cupboards. All the web searches on how to build a business start becoming obsolete.
You start going back to your comfortable habits and it takes a couple of months before you realise, you've gotten no where with these goals.
Sound Familiar?
I have been there myself. Most of my adult life has been a string of empty promises to myself, saying I will do this and achieve that. It wasn't until recently when I tried to keep to a goal, I realised it wasn't as simple as I thought. In this case it was saving for a holiday. I had started and I was doing well but then life happened and I didn't prioritise it as much, I didn't get the passports done and wasn't saving adequately enough. I basically hadn't really thought out the logistics of getting on that holiday.
Reflecting on this when I admitted my own defeat, I thought back on why I wasn't able to achieve this. For me it wasn't prioritising it enough, and allowing life to get in the way and giving into temptations of throwing money away on non essential things. I forgot to remind myself of why I wanted to do it in the first place.
And that's when it hit me. I've heard it being said over and over by many people on YouTube and through books, but never fully accepted it and allowed it to fly over my head, but it is 100% true.
Why?
This is THE question you need to ask yourself with every decision that you make and every goal you intend to achieve.
What is the reason you are doing what you are doing? What is that drives you? What is the end result that you are hoping to gain from doing whatever it is you are doing?
Over the past couple of days I have had this phrase come up into my life: 95% of people who set out goals, fail.
That is a huge statistic! Only 5% achieve what they set out to do.
This is not something I want you to be discouraged by. I want you to feel empowered by it! Become a part of that 5% minority who do achieve their goals/ dreams/ aspirations! Have that accomplishment behind you, make it a part of your story of how you got to where you wanted to be. Make it a part of you and the stories you tell in the future.
One commonality you will find with the 5% is the reason they achieved it, was because of their "Why".
When you know your "Why", you will keep up your motivation and reach your goal!
