2018 is well and truly behind us now and 2019 is starting to creep on us.
I've come into the new year completely different to how I'd usually start.
I usually write out my goals and get into a 'girlboss' mindset ready for the dawning of the new year, at least a couple of weeks before it comes round. So by the time January 1st does comes round, I hit the ground running.
This year however I've taken a different approach. I took my time to enjoy and savour the last moments of 2018 without any worries or care of what 2019 will bring. It's been quite refreshing to not have any expectations from myself or from the year ahead. Its only in the last week or so that I've actually reflected on the past year, what I've achieved, the goals I smashed and all the experiences in between.
From here I started to think about what I wanted this coming year to bring me. I've shown myself how much I can achieve when my mind is set to it and the rewards gained from my efforts. This gives me the confidence to move into 2019, knowing I can think bigger and do more.
Its also made me think of my values deeper. As my goals are getting bigger, I need that strong foundational 'Why' as my motivation to move forwards otherwise I'll just be paper in the wind, not knowing what I'm doing or where I'm going.
When you know your Why and know where you want to be, you can then trace the steps backwards to figure out how to move forward to get to that goal. What will it take? How can you start taking those babysteps forward?
An example of this habit, and I see it often as I'm sure you do too, is when people want to loose some weight and get bikini body ready, for that holiday in a few months.
That holiday is basically a deadline.
You then need to work out how much weight you need to loose a week (realistically and healthily preferably) to get to your goal between now and the holiday.
That's one step.
The next is to start making changes to your lifestyle to help you get to your ideal body. Eating right and doing the appropriate exercise to help shift the weight ect.
You work everything out backwards so you can then move forward and actually start taking action on your plans confidently.
It's exactly the same when it comes to other specific goals, the babysteps just look different. The diet and fitness will be budgeting and saving if you have a goal to save up for a car/ house/ holiday.
When you think of an amazing achievement in your life, its easy to see in hindsight how you got there.
In this case, we're doing the opposite. We're looking into the future to see how we can get there. Of course things might be slightly different along the way to how you imagined (hitting a few unseen potholes on the journey maybe?), but as long as you have the commitment and persistence to get there, you're already half way there! All you need is action to carry you the rest of the way.
I'd love to know if you have ever tried this (or a similar) method before, or are you curious to try it out? Let me know in the comments below what your goals are and how you aim to smash them this year!
Remember, There are 12 months in the year and every day is a new chance to begin something new! Start now or you never will.
Stay kind and be beautiful,
Cx.
